Questions We Get a Lot
Aluminum pergolas feature a lightweight, rust-resistant frame with a powder-coat finish that holds up beautifully in all weather conditions with minimal upkeep. Cedar wood pergolas offer a natural, warm aesthetic and are naturally resistant to moisture and insects, making them a popular choice for a classic backyard look. The right choice comes down to your design preference and how much maintenance you want to take on over time.
Permit requirements vary by city, county, and HOA, so we always recommend checking with your local building department before installation. Factors like structure size, attachment to your home, and local zoning rules are the most common triggers for a permit requirement. Reviewing your local codes before you begin assembly helps ensure a smooth, compliant installation.
Our pergola kits are designed with the DIY homeowner in mind and include the hardware and components needed for assembly. Most customers complete installation with a partner and basic tools over a weekend. If your project involves electrical work, such as lighting or fans, we recommend consulting a licensed electrician for that portion of the build.

About Our Pergolas
A pergola is one of the most impactful additions you can make to an outdoor living space. By defining a dedicated area on your deck, patio, or backyard, a pergola creates structure and shade without closing off the open-air feeling that makes outdoor spaces so inviting. They suit homeowners who want to host gatherings, carve out a quiet retreat, or simply add architectural interest to their yard. When choosing a pergola, start with materials. Aluminum frames offer low-maintenance durability and a clean, contemporary profile, while cedar wood delivers natural warmth and a timeless look that weathers gracefully. Size matters too — measure your intended footprint carefully and consider how the structure will interact with existing hardscaping or landscaping. Think about roof style as well: slatted trellis designs filter light beautifully, while denser coverage offers more shade. Finally, consider extras like built-in bar areas or electrical compatibility if you plan to use the space after dark. A well-chosen pergola becomes the anchor of your outdoor lifestyle for years to come.
